Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Final Break

Players are taking a speedy (5) minute break, and they will return for the find level of the night.  Blinds in Level 15 will be 2,000/4,000/500 (463 total entries).

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Bustout Tweets

Level 14 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/400)
Total Entries: 463

Just a couple of departure Tweets:

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Sarmiento Flips Huge

Level 14 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/400)
Total Entries: 463

Steven Sarmiento

Sarmiento is no stranger to deep runs in these events, chopping the Big Stax 300 in our most recent series in October.  He just flipped for a 350,000 pot with Jia Liu, and watched as his QQ > AK, fading the overs and a turned flush draw.

Sarmiento is now over 400,000 and one of the top ten stacks in the field.  There are approximately 108 players left in the room at the moment.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Level Up

Level 14 is about to begin, with the blinds going up to 1,500/3,000/400 (462 total entries).  Players will have a five minute break at the end of the level for the floor to color off the (500) chips, and there will be one more level afterwards.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Still Alive

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Break Time

The end of Level 12 is here, and players are going on a (15) minute break.  When they return to Level 13 the blinds will be going up to 1,200/2,400/300 (456 total entries).

Action is currently on 14 tables, which means that approximately 126 players are active in the room.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): 400k Pot

Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Entries: 456

Joe Taormina

The action was picked up going to the flop, with Joe Taormina and Tyler Gaston in a blind v. blind situation.  Gaston was flatting a 50,000 bet pre (not sure if it was three or four-bet), and both players saw a flop of Q♣ 3 3♣.  With the pot the size it was, it was surprising to see the action go check-check on the flop.  After the A on the turn, Taormina fired out a bet of 55,000 which was called by Gaston after some thought.  Taormina shoved the river after the 7♠ fell, and Gaston would once again be deep in thought.  After a few minutes Gaston would make the call of 103,100, and see Joe turn over QQ (flopped full house).

Joe Taormina - 480,000
Tyler Gaston - 70,000

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Luigi Powers Up/New Level

Luigi

Level 12 is about to begin, with the blinds going up to 1,000/2,000/300 (453 total entries).  Right before break Loui Santoro took hold of one of the top stacks in the room after his 55 > 10 7 > A 10 on a flop of 10 7 5.  The board would run out clean for Lou and would chip up to 435,000, only a few thousand behind Andrew Weinstein.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Updated Counts

Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Entries: 451

Here are updated counts from the field (largest stacks):

Andrew Weinstein - 470,000
Tyler Gaston - 275,000
Ray Ross - 265,000
Mike Cologna - 260,000
Jared Jaffee - 225,000
Benny Bianco - 225,000
Lou Santoro - 220,000

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Team Kitten Poker

Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Entries: 447

Edmond Petrella

For those that follow the live updates consistently, you may remember Edmond Petrella from Big Stax 3 (August 2013).  Petrella chopped the tournament four ways, taking home $44,000 for his share, and taking a memorable photo.  The four players to chop the tournament posed together for a winners photo, and Edmond held a poker book in the photo (which he read throughout Day 3).  Things have seemed to work for him as he has since cashed in seven tournaments for over $10,000.

Petrella has over 180,000 at the moment, and is also literature free.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Level Up

Level 10 saw a handful of bustouts as players returned from dinner with a plan of attack.  Blinds are going up to 800/1,600/200 in Level 11 (445 total entries), and players who enter the event right now would still have well over 30 bigs.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Return Efforts

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Entries: 443

Csik & Temel

The winner from the Big Stax 300 event has already bagged chips (Maggie Morris) for Day 2, while one of the three to chop the Big Stax 500 (James Anderson) has done the same.  The other two players to agree to a deal with James are currently in the field, and looking to follow suit.

Chris Csik won a seat into today's field in last night's satellite, while Izzet Burak Temel bought in late in the afternoon.  Chris is currently in better shape of the two, sitting with close to 200,000 (which is a top fifteen stack at the moment).  Temel just had one foot out the door, but ended up getting a lucky double to 65,000.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Back From Dinner

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Entries: 438

Players have returned from dinner, and the homestretch towards bagging chips for Day 2 really begins now.  There were an additional six players to enter over the dinner break, and the number now has a realistic chance of reaching 460.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Heading To Dinner

Players are now headed to dinner for (75) minutes, and they will return at approximately 7:40pm.  When they return to Level 10 the blinds will have gone up to 600/1,200/200.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Buzgon Arrives…Buzgon Doubles

Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Entries: 432

Dan Buzgon (Marlton, NJ) was one of the latest players to arrive in the field (that wasn't a re-entry), but it didn't take long for him to build up.  Buzgon just doubled through Mike "Mad Dog" Shasho, as his A2 was tabled on the A 2 K Q x board.  Shasho's hand was never seen, and Dan is now over 90,000.

Buzgon has over 1,000,000 in career earnings, with his breakout score coming in 2011 when he made a WPT final table at Borgata, cashing for over $330,000.  The last time Dan was here he cashed in this exact event (May 2013), finishing in 25th place for just over $4,000.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Level Up Then Dinner

Level 9 has just started, with blinds going up to 500/1,000/100 (428 total entries).  Players will finish this level and then go on a (75) minute dinner break.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): No Strangers

Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/100)
Total Entries: 427

Support of local players to a poker room is key to it's success, and here is a short list of Parx regulars and their chip counts:

Lou Santoro - 162,000
Greg Fishberg - 130,000
Jeff Wicker - 130,000
Ray Ross - 125,000
Matt Macaroni - 80,000
Nancy Martin - 50,000
Sean Wallace - 37,000
Bob Brady - 35,000
Joe Palma - 13,000

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Early Lead

Level 8 (Blinds 400/800/100)
Total Entries: 421

Andrew Weinstein

Andrew Weinstein (Alexandria, VA) is the first to separate himself from the field so far, sitting on a stack over 250,000.  Weinstein has $170,000 in career earnings, over 18 cashes dated back to 2005.  His biggest score came in 2006, when he final tabled a Borgata $750 NLH event, taking home over $32,000.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Blinds Increased

The start of Level 8 has been announced by the tournament floor, and the blinds have gone up to 400/800/100 (419 total entries).  Two of the outer tables have now broken, scattering those players all over the room.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Dever Doubles

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/100)
Total Entries: 415

Cathy Dever

Cathy Dever (Ephrata, PA) wasn't in good shape to stick around on one bullet, as she got her last 14,000 in on a flop of 8 9 3 (with J 10 against K K).  She ended up having her opponent drawing head when a 7 hit the turn, and chipped up to 60,000.

Dever has over $131,000 in lifetime earnings, with two cashes coming here at Parx, but that was prior to the inception of the Big Stax series.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Trending

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/100)
Total Entries: 415

Joe Wertz - Busts early in Level 7 (re-entry has yet to be determined)

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Coming Back

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/100)
Total Entries: 412

Players that busted last in the last level are now back taking their new seats, including Dave Inselberg and Josh Albin.  Inselberg got seated at Table 74 with Alida Veliu, Kevin Mathers, Michael Marder, and Mike Summers.

On the hand before break Alida won a healthy pot, after a gentleman who had been shoving 100bb numerous times throughout the level (pre) got unlucky versus her.  He shoved over her 6x open, and she eventually made the call, and her 77 > AA of her opponent.  Alida now has over 110,000.

Big Stax 1500 (Day 1C): Break Time

Players are going on their second break of the day, and when they return to Level 7, the blinds will have gone up to 300/600/100 (407 total entries).
